Transverse Myelitis or "TM"

What is Transverse Myelitis?

Transverse Myelitis is a rare inflammatory disease causing injury to the spinal cord with varying degrees of weakness, sensory alterations, and autonomic dysfunction.

How can The Perfect Step help make life better?

To make life with Transverse Myelitis more manageable we utilize intense exercise, load bearing activities, and modalities that promote range of motion and muscle. We also attempt retrain the brain on how to connect to certain parts of the body. Through our process the body reduces the pain of movement, regains muscle mass which creates for better skin integrity, and increased blood flow allows for a chance of better bowel and bladder function.

Meet Jared Avalos.

“After my son was diagnosed with TM we went to a clinic where the exercises weren’t challenging and there was very little equipment, in fact we had to bring our own weights with us. When I walked in to the Perfect Step and I saw all the machines, I knew that this is where I wanted my son to be. Today my son can move his legs a lot more and he experiences more sensation in them but best of all he is proud of himself.”
