Description of Dance Styles Offered:

PRESCHOOL DANCE: (2 -5 years old)– Classes are 1 hour or 1.25 per week. Includes instruction in ballet, creative movement and tot tumble for ages 2-3. Ballet, Tap and Jazz are taught in the 4-5 year old classes. Focus is on refining motor skills, developing coordination, balance and rhythm skills and socialization with other young dancers. Classes incorporate fun and energetic instruction with age-appropriate music and activities.

TAP:  Develops rhythm and coordination skills, balance and control.  Introduction to fundamentals of Tap, instruction on exercises to improve technique and clarity, intricate footwork patterns, speed and complex combinations of steps.  Specialized focus on the style of Rhythm Tap, as well as other styles.

BALLET: Fundamental ballet technique classes essential to developing a strong dancer. Classes focus on proper posture, proper technical form, rhythm development, coordination, and body lines.  French ballet terminology is used on all levels to naturally allow the dancer to learn and use the appropriate vocabulary.  Classes include barre work, across the floor exercises, and center floor combinations.  Basic ballet technique is the foundation for ALL dance movement.  It is, therefore, required that all dance students take a ballet class in addition to other tap, jazz, and/or lyrical classes.

JAZZ: Jazz classes condition a dancer in the areas of strength, flexibility, coordination, and technique.  Various jazz styles and techniques are taught based on the age and skill level of the class.

LYRICAL: Lyrical classes are a fusion of ballet and jazz dance techniques that use motion to interpret music and express emotion.

HIP-HOP:  Hip-Hop classes focus on cutting-edge funk and street-style dance. Choreography and music selections are clean and age appropriate.

CLOGGING: Clogging technique focuses on rhythms and foot patterns.  Students learn the basics of clogging, as well as intricate footwork and combinations.

COMPETITION DANCE TEAMS:  Dancers must audition for the Dance Productions Gastonia competition dance teams, which are offered in tap, jazz, lyrical, and clogging.  If you are interested in receiving more information about our competition teams, please contact the Dance Productions Gastonia studio at 704-868-4585.
